VKB is managed by Okka Scherer, a long-time resident of Lantau Island who has dedicated her life to supporting animals in need. VKB is privately operated by Okka and is not a registered charity, but it does hold an exemption from the AFCD (Exemption no: IND00040). The AFCD audits our records to ensure transparency and accountability, monitoring the number of animals we care for and the associated costs. This oversight allows us to charge an adoption fee and

ensures that every donation is used effectively to support our mission.

Donations of any size help and every dollar received will be spent on helping VKB continue to help rehome, rehabilitate and rescue animals. 

It costs a lot to care for over 200 dogs! Here is a breakdown of how the donations can help given some of our costs:

$80 - license registration and rabies vaccination for one dog

$160 - heartworm test for one dog

$200 - one annual vaccination for one dog

$300 - 6 months of preventative heartworm meds for one dog

$1500 to $3000 - desexing surgery for one dog
$2000 - 3 months of food for one dog
